I now have benjiquakers syncro and it’s my first mk2 so it had to be something special because im a die hard mk1 fan, since passing my test back in 03 ive had 2 tintops and 5 cabbys. Totally raped for insurance but i was 18 with a twoc’d lhasa green campaign on Q reg plates.
Now im pottering about no longer on the ronals but satin black seven spokes (home refurb) until i can find some nice 13’s. Tried the stock mk1 9 spokes and i think it would be quite a subtle homage to my roots but alas i cant afford tyres for them atm.
Ive got loads of questions that the haynes cant answer and a shopping list for trim bits that i don’t think ill find anywhere else. Im off to learn more about webers now cause the syncro growls at like 3000 for the first couple of minutes and it’s well getting on my wick.
twoc’d lhasa ??? can you explain that in English for us oldies please []
twoc’d a term used usually by the police, taken without owners consent. it was a stolen and recovered hence the Q registration plates.
and lhasa being the shade of green.
Ok, yes I know what a twoc is it was just the proximity to lhasa that threw me,
I just checked and its LA6V – Lhasa Green metallic
btw In the past but I always understood that Q plates were only for home built cars? please forgive me [] this is not an interrogation, but not having lived in the UK for many years I do not know the current rules & regulations [:o)]
Many years ago I once fell foul of the Q plate law after building a Moss Midge! link here http://www.mobc.co.uk/page2.htm
I actually met Mr Moss in the early years, when he was only selling plans for a 2 or 4 seater Midge which were both based on the 1200cc Triumph Herald chassis,
I suggested that that with a few mods the 6 cylinder 2 liter Triumph engine & overdrive gearbox could be used and so was given a free set of plans to play with, unfortunately by the (hobby) time I had built the car & modded the plans it was too late as the world & Mr Moss had moved on. [xx(]
Im not too sure about the Q reg laws, the craic at the time from the geezer was that he’d got it from an auction and had to get on to the DVLA due to the chassis number being filed off thus he was issued with the Q’s.
Took me months before i could afford a new exhaust, i covered over half of it in coke cans, glue and u clamp bolts. Sounded like a helicopter.
My above post modified!
Hi everyone,
I’m not a syncro owner yet, but looking to get one as a toy soon[]
Andy
Hi All,
I`m also not an syncro owner yet, but I am very interrested.. Currently I have a normal MK2 which I am planning to convert to a G60 look a-like (I have all the parts collected).
I am here to improve on my knowledge and to have a good time! Thnx to LD50 for the approval, and ‘hallo’ to Chris S (I am also from the Netherlands).
Best regards,
Martijn
Hello all!
My name is Ben, and I live over in the US (Oregon). Syncro’s are very rare over here, but I am looking to converting my 1990 GTI to AWD. I’ve already learned a ton from this website, looking forward to learning more. Thanks!
-Ben
Hi Ben, If you contact James (jman on here, he lives in Portland Oregon) he may still have this which I shipped to him last year.
Yes, it is a complete Syncro rear floor pan. [:p]

Woah, I definitely will! Thanks for the information.
Maybe you could PM me how much it would cost to have the same thing shipping to me? []

Too much!
First you have to find one, buy it and get it to me here in Holland,
I have to crate it up so its suitable for air freighting,
It is collected from me & taken to Schipol airport by the freighting company,
It is then flown to your nearest international airport, where you have to collect it and then pay U.S. import duty on it.
Believe me its not cheap.

I have sold that floor but, I have a brand new one on my shelf in Oregon City. LMK what you need for parts, I have most everything to complete a syncro in my shop.
