And I’d like:-
Bigger brakes
Rallye front lights/grill
and……
cool
where did you pick that up from? There is one on ebay at the mo
Drove all the way to Southern Germany over the weekend and trailered it back. It was on ebay a couple of weeks ago, but I was only able to pick it up Saturday.
i saw that on there too. There was another thats been on ebay a few times but is in pretty top condition. I guess its mates bidding it up for them.
Pics?? []
and the tyres are whats supposed to be on there
bigger brakes will only happen with spacers. 5mm using 16v brakes and god knows to fit 280mm (but why would you need that braking power)
ive a pic of a country with rallye lights on and it doesnt look right- different but i think a raised jetta country would look better with the rallye lights
I’ve been trolling through the documentation and the original German log book lists the tyres as 195/60R15 and 175/70R14!
It then has a load of figures under the heading ‘Bemerkungen’ which includes 205/60R15 and 7JJx15. I think these were added by the dealer when first purchased.
However it may be a while before I can decipher the relevant bits. I’ll have to get my brother to translate them when I go over again.
Just had it back from the garage with an MoT. I shall pop into the Licensing office tomorrow, but understand that it may take a few days to get a number back!
In the meantime I might give it a good polish over the week end (might be the last it gets for a while). And take some photos.
Hopefully I shall get my first chance to drive it properly by the middle of next week.
All I need now is a MoT failure 16V GTi 5dr in black to rob the parts from.
have a look at the english Country brochure i have copied into the general section. It will help you decipher bits.
I’ll have a look.
I now have a registration number and will pop down to the local motor factors tomorrow (Saturday) and get some plates made up.
So the rest of the weekend I’ll be buzzing around East Sussex enjoying myself!
Dave,
You mention spacers being required with 16V brakes. Why are they required? Does the 16V have spacers or is it because I’m running 205s?
I’ve been contemplating what I want to do with it and have decided to take it up to GTi tune, although may consider fitting a cross-flow head to it as well!
The idea of a Jetta Country has always appealed to me and would have gone that way, but have not come across a Jetta Syncro of suitable condition yet. I’d also have to get a cheap Country from Germany, but don’t think that that would be too much problem! I also thought about converting the Jetta into an estate version as well, making a ‘mini’ Range Rover! However, this will have to wait until next year sometime when I build the double garage on the house!!
Hi fella
the 16v brakes foul the chromlux wheels due to their deep-dish design. Nowt to do with tyres. Have a gander at my thread. Ill be taking some more pics soon
Well I have managed to take some pictures of the car and thought I’d stick them on a website for all to see! If you want to have a look, go to http://www.vwcountry.co.uk.
I’ve added a few bits about Golf Countrys in general with some extra pictures (although the GTI pictures do not seem to be working). Click on the pictures to get a larger view!
