ModeratorYes, to the angle drive, the early Rallye Golf cast iron (ASU) transfer boxes were self contained with only a 1/2 liter of oil.

Participantkinda regret that i didn’t change the boot that sits from the firewall to the steering rack when the car was out

god damn that sucks to do when the engine is IN the car. well, boot is on, and the linkage is mounted in the enginebay now, only thing missing is getting the steering column back on the linkage, damn spring under there, makes things about 9million times harder. anyhow. will be finished with this tomorrow

maybe i will now reduce the noise from the engine into the coupè now

MemberSorry I can’t remmember exactly what I did, but it made it a whole load easier to engage the UJ splines. Try taking the steering wheel off, then undoing the allen/hex bolt holding the steering lock to the dash mounting, should give you a lot more free play, to avoid damage to the splines.

Participantdamn, i’ve got one ugly golf
ohwell, it will be better with timeonly reason to actually keep this body, is because its a syncro, and because it only has 3 doors

anyhow, took some crappy pics of my ugly car while out driving today
and one i took while driving, so, it turned out real bad

Participantjust thinking out loud here..
would it be possible to use the original golf GT ABS harness? eventho i’m using the passat abs unit? its too damn many wires on the side of my abs unit as it is..
the EDL is not needed at all, so, the golf harness does not have this plug, but the abs unit would operate as it should anyways? shouldnt it?
May 20, 2010 at 8:51 pm #7289pvl
MemberI think chris has this worked out. Ask him, what his opinion is abouth it. I thought there was a little problem with
that…I thought the abs is still giving errors if you use the EDL master cylinder
May 20, 2010 at 8:57 pm #7290Housey
Participantokei, i’m using the edl MC today, with the passat harness, which does’t quite fit the golf, making a ****ing wire mess besides the MC. thought, if i was able to use the original golf harnes, leaving out the EDL function of the MC. would make a ****load of a neater engine bay
its already cramped beyond recognition in there nowMay 20, 2010 at 9:13 pm #7291pvl
MemberLet’s await Chrisses reply. He knows this stuff, as he did this already….
