Thats correct that is only the shockers, The front springs and shockers are the same as any mk 2 or 3 Golf, its only the rear springs and shockers that are Syncro specific, btw you dont want to be lowering your syncro too much as it upsets all the suspension geometry and actually makes the handling worse rather than better!

ok no probs are the rear the same as rally ones?? i was thinking 40mm maybe 60mm but from what youve said i imagine 40 would be better or do you think that would be too much??

Yes exactly the same as the Rallye at the rear, the standard Syncro rear springs are known for weakening over time, its a common fault.

would it be better to buy just the lowering springs to lower the car say 40mm, or is it best to get a suspension kit? how much difference would you get between the two options in the way of handling ?

Holmes, you have to consider that your springs and dampers will have been on your car probably since production – that’s 18-20 years ago. If you’re going to replace the springs then you should budget to replace all of the bushes and wearing parts you can when you strip the corners of your car down.

You will get far more benefit out of removing all of the slop out of the suspension than just reducing the ride height, which will just limit the amount of suspension drop you get when pushing on. If you limit that then you’ll ruin the capability of your car in the conditions that it excels in – bumpy, twisting, slippery B-roads.

Refresh the lot, add in a Rallye rear ARB and reap the benefits of your work!

The rear shocks are syncro specific! lowered 2wd shocks are too long even on the lowest setting and there is also too much travel in a 2wd rear shock which will allow the spring to jump out of it seating on the rebound, the best deal I have seen is the ones above on ebay.de as just the rears only are over 90 euros each at the dealers.

The rear units are totally different to 2WD Golf2.

Get under your car and look at it properly – you’ll see how different it is underneath.
