After losing my Corrado in an unfortunate accident I decided that I needed something else in my life.

I scoured all the usual websites and papers for a suitable replacement but really couldn’t find anything that was reasonably priced.
After several weeks of searching I accidentally stumbled across an advert for a mk2 Jetta with 51k on the clock, not only was at low mileage but it was also a syncro and right hand drive (sweeet)!

After a haggle and a handshake I managed to limp her home all of about 70 miles and half a tank of fuel (I know, right). I remember from a previous Golf that the original auto carb was an absolute pain in the bum, and with the timing being out and numerous vacuum hoses having being replaced with washer jet hose I decided it would be less time consuming to put another engine in it. Having managed to negotiate the return of my Corrado from the insurance company it seemed rude not to use the good bits.
So that’s where I’m at, I’ve only had it a couple of weeks and work has been pretty crazy so not a huge amount has happened however I fully intend to make use of the long summer nights so will try and keep this updated.

The only issue I found so far seems to be the fuelling but from what I gather you can use an early GTI lift pump with some modifications, but that bridge doesn’t need to be crossed just yet…

just testing image posting via attachment – Sam do you not get the “attach file” button below the post gubbins? I just tested posting a pic and it seemed to work ok. Some mobile browsers have issue with it though on my android phone it works in chrome.

Congrats on the syncro Sam 🙂

so what motor (engine code) was in the corrado which you’re planning to swap into the syncro? That’ll help with figuring out how difficult this is going to be

You can indeed use a gti lift pump with some modification, and with just a little wiring modification you can even use all the oem gti loom for the fuel pump and it’ll all link in to the correct relay so the fuel pump stops and starts as it should as standard. There’s pics on here somewhere and I’ll dig them out otherwise. It’s relatively straightforward.

The Corrado was a G60 so PG engine code. I’ve stripped the entire loom so should be a simple swap – I’ll try and put up pics now…

Hi Sam, if you are going to run a G60 motor in your Syncro you will need an o2c gearbox in place of the o20 let me find some earlier posts over this.

Given the G60 conversion you are doing to your Syncro, which I have done before,

I feel I could be of more help if you contact me directly so I can help better – Chris

ps I have most of the extra conversion parts that you need.

Thanks Chris, I’ll have a read.

I have a ASU box with transfer box, plus everything from the donar, pedal box/loom etc.
Rallye handbrake cables ordered, currently looking for an exhaust (the standard one on there is mild steel and a little small).

I’ll read and back to you ??

    Thanks

(I’m afraid I can’t see either link because I’m not “logged in” and my current login details don’t work ? )

hmm not sure why the old forum posts were hidden – have fixed that.

the old site had to be locked since the signup process got broken by the ceaseless march of technology…but all the old forum posts were migrated across to the new forums, and there’s a link cunningly hidden at the top of old forum posts titled “See this exact topic on the new forums”….which in this case links to:

    https://forum.vwsyncro.co.uk/?s=%22020+rod+change+to+02C+cable+change+parts+list%22&ad=topicfwd_2361

    and

    https://forum.vwsyncro.co.uk/?s=%22brake+upgrades%22&ad=topicfwd_119

respectively. But you should be able to see the old forum posts now. Not sure why they were hidden. Hope that helps..

re the motor – g60 – nice! that should have the right bolt holes on the back of the block etc which is great, and having the full donor car/loom/everything should make life a lot easier 🙂
