I have an 89 Jetta syncro with standard rod change box. I have a G60 engine I want to fit.

What are my clutch options? Can I use a vr6 clutch? What would you recommend?

Sorry if this has been asked. The search function doesn’t work.

PS. I am aware of the risk involved in putting large amounts of power through a rod change box ;)

To fit a cable change box you need a G60 flywheel & clutch.

for a rod change box the clutch is smaller diameter.

btw a 16v friction plate will not fit as the splines are different on the 8v (rodchange) gearbox input shaft.

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for the info. So what clutch can I use for a g60 flywheel and rod change box?? Is my only option a standard syncro clutch?

seeing that you are going with the rod change option, you cannot use any G60 (02A/02C) clutch components at all.

get a decent “high performance” 8v clutch and use that.. as chris says, the 16v clutch cannot be used as the splines are different.
