So, after briefly sharing one of the Syncro’s off this site, I had to have one of my own, and about a year ago, I picked up a 1990, from Norfolk ish, which a young lady had owned until mounting bills meant a VW enthusiast/mechanic got hold of it, he did some nice things like replacing the heater matrix with genuine parts, and it seems totally standard.

I fitted a rear shocker, and front wheel bearing for it’s MOT, and since October last year have then gone on to replace, track rods, wishbones, both bearings, tops mounts and ball joints…just waiting to get it tracked and cambered on a 4 wheel laser alignment job.

I will get round to a respray, but for now, i’m enjoying driving it.

My next job is suspension…it’s currently stock, and tired…

Have now replaced lots of things at the front, and had it on two 200 mile trips which seem to have done the engine the world of good.

Also fitted a tow bar and rear gti bumper, and given it a clean and vacuum inside…

Also found centre caps bolts and put those on…

So seems to be running very well…and handles very well…Do have rear strut brace to fit and maybe a front upper brace too…

Also have weber carb, but have not fitted this yet, the same goes for GTi cam…

Fitting a GTI cam will not give you much if any extra, you need to fit the GTI head as this has bigger valves, you can block the injector ports with pennies!

Also fitted weber carb…big difference in the power, can’t quite believe it really

While the front upper strut brace is a good mod the rear one is not really needed on a Syncro due to the massive constuction of the rear beam, compare it to the 2wd rear axle beam & you will see what I mean.

Yes the extra power & drivability you get from the Weber carb conversion is awesome isn’t it, you just need an 8v GTI head now, it will give about the same again & put you to just over 100 bhp [;)]

Can you tell me which webber carb you fitted and is it available as a kit and where from? Also is the Gti head a straight swap

Well sold my lupo, so keeping the Syncro :)

Now ordered Mk3 Golf Syncro handbrake cables to sort the handbrake out for MOT, fired it up after 10 standing and it ran nice after a few turns.

Fitted some MIM 1900’s with Eagle F1 tyres, now to sort insurance out and then MOT.

So happy it didn’t sell :)

That’s great news. I’m actually selling my A4 tdi daily and downgrading to a 206 1.4 van so I can keep my syncro and tax it for occasional use!
