thanks for your help i will try this when it happens again regards.
holmesMemberhi chris, can a normal cv boot kit be used instead of the one you have listed? part number 191498201a it looks a better option?.regards
holmesMemberwhat grade was that? cheers
holmesMemberi cant believe that vw would make it that difficult to remove a bearing. it must be hard to get all that into a press machine. when i decide to do this i may aswell upgrade the bushes on the wishbone, do you know were to get those urethane bush kits from and price? regards
holmesMemberhad a go in the car today gave it a bit of a drive, the problem returned. i think it maybe dirt in the tank so that will be my next job i think cleaning the tank out. how to?
holmesMemberhave taken the prop shaft off the other golf this also has a split gaitor and ive been to vw and the cost is about £45+ vat (daylight robbery) do you know how to remove the cv joint from the shaft ive removed the split pin but it doesn’t just lift off, i think you mentioned it before and had a picture somewhere but can’t remember. do you know where to get a car trolley cheap as possible as i need to gut the other syncro but jacking it up in a small garage is proving tricky.
holmesMembersorry didnt see page 2 not paying attention. [:o)]
holmesMembercongratulations keep going cos i still need help
holmesMemberhi chris aswell as the options you have suggested, i noticed that the propshaft seal has perished and is leaking grease so i may change that first, i’ll try the easier options first then work up i think. are there any problems with getting the prop shaft off and what will happen if i spin the shaft to gain access to the bolts? regards
holmesMemberhave changed the filter thankyou[] and congratulations and dont get a life just yet cos my cars still broke and your the only one that maybe able to help. (yoda of syncros?).
holmesMemberi have put it on a ramp in my lunch hour, there still seems to be noise coming from the nearside wheel so iam gona change the wheel bearing first. do you know how the hub comes apart and to get the bearing out and pics. also if it is the dreaded diff then do you know how to remove these as i have the spare one on my other syncro.[] regards darren
holmesMembersorry to but in but does anyone know how to remove the rear hub aswell as the bearing and the back plate as i managed to shear the backplate bolts trying.
holmesMemberi checked the fuel pump lastnight and it is in working order, so i used a foot pump and attatchment to blow through the fuel lines to the carb and the supply pipe from the tank, and this morning the car ran fine hoorah so hopefully it was just a blocked pipe “touch wood” (iam touching wood) will keep you up to date thanks. regards darren
holmesMemberchanged the n/s/r shaft lastnight and to my surprise (not) it wasn’t the fault so i will repeat the procedure for the other side as i founf that the drum on the o/s was stuck last time, i may aswell change that aswell. i got my other half to drive while i listened in the back, i felt alot of vibration and the knocking noise on the o/s, iam sure it was the otherside last time but hey never mind will perservere.[8]
holmesMemberi aim to remove alot of sound deadening weight and the changing of the heavy small bumpers to the large lighter versions. when i did this before on my 1.6 driver it was compareable with an 8v gti, which was nice! i managed to remove 4 large black bags of deadenig with each being a struggle to lift. so with an upgrade of engine and the being lighter it should do quite well. also when i had my 2.0l gt syncro a few years back that was comparable with a 16v without the weight saving.
