Trev16v
MemberVR6Will pointed this out to me over on CGTI in my 16V Syncro manifold fabrication thread (http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=236232).
This:
So I understand what the idea is: it’s to be used with a 16V Scirocco cast manifold, which I know to be useful in 16V Syncro conversions because of the position of its downpipe flage. I actually bought a 16V Scirocco manifold and still have it sat in the workshop as I was going to go down this route myself (but I’ve since started to just fabricate a manifold that will work with the normal G60 Syncro downpipe).
But what is this seller actually selling? As far as I know there is no off-the-shelf downpipe like this; to use a Scirocco 16V cast manifold you have to modify the normal Rallye/G60 Syncro downpipe usually. But that looks almost original.
Any ideas?

ModeratorHere is a translation
Passend an orginalen BI Kat. Es darf auch geboten werden nicht nur beobachtet !
To all who want to rebuild your G60 Syncro to 16v,
you this need together with a Y-pipe exhaust manifold from a Scirocco 16v, then you have a problem with the manifold and down pipe solved.I was going to use this myself! But due to time constraints I do not come to do the rebuild.
Fits to orginal twin Cat!

Participantlooks original, but like Trev not aware of what it would come from?

MemberDefinitely not a G60 Syncro / Rallye downpipe, or certainly not one in original state; the top flange isn’t angled like the G60 Syncro / Rallye one (see my manifold build thread).
I have a Scirocco 16V cast manifold which I was almost going to use for my 16V Syncro conversion, and the G60 Syncro downpipe could certainly be made to fit it with modification – but would not fit as it is.
It must be a G60 Syncro downpipe as you say Chris but perhaps modified very cleanly using TIG and with exactly the same grade of stainless, or something…?

Participantno 02 sensor outlet aswell, and its angeled different. and it seems bent? some homemade crap?

ModeratorLet me find my photos of the std G60 Syncro downpipe.

MemberHere’s a poor image that shows the angle of the upper flange of the downpipe on my G60 Syncro.
Also note that the dampers (whatever you call them!) are located differently.

ModeratorYes you are correct, it is not a std G60 downpipe!

Participantlooks to me like this is modified to fit a regular fwd G60 manifold in order to use the bi-cat system…
could possibly work with the syncro system, altho some of the nuts will be extremly hard to reach
