Wanted – cheap 5-speed gearbox for 1.3 mk2 golf

yes more gearboxes I’m afraid….

I’m giving my gf’s car a bit of tlc over the next few weeks – she’s just passed her test recently so is driving a mk2 1.3. The thing is it’s got one of the age-old 4-speed boxes and I’m keeping an eye out for a cheap 5-speed. I was going to get a complete motor and box from my local scrappy but went there the other day to find it’s no longer there! []

I know these aren’t exactly sought after components whcih I’m hoping will mean they’re also cheap as chips *if* I can find one – so if there’s such a box cluttering up your garage please let me know – I’d possibly be interested with an engine to go with it if it’ll help clear space and doesn’t really cost extra

The motor in question is the one with the big round air filter sat on top of it, and the box has a little ball-jointed shift rod – can do pics and check codes if needed.

I do need to stress this is a *low* budget project. The current box is ok but I thought I’d see if there was one floating around clogging up a workshop before I start working on the car.

ok – as I say it’s not mega urgent but I’d like to try and sort if possible. I drove it for a bit while I had no syncro or gti and I think i ran it a little bit ragged…not least by filling it full of 02c boxes and hurtling back from holland in it on our last gearbox run
