Anyone got any tips for removing the swingarm bushes as I have four to do and have only managed one so far in the last couple of days!

Some people burn them out with a torch.
I use a large deep socket and a threaded rod with nuts and washers. Cut the existing rubber lip from one side of the old bushing to expose the flat surface of the swingarm. Select a deep socket or piece of pipe that will sit firmly on the swingarm and allow the bushing to pass inside. Pull the old bushing out using the threaded rod, washers, and nuts. This may require a substantial amount of force, so use the largest threaded rod that will fit through the bushing. you may still need to heat the swingarm around the bushing should you encounter a very difficult bushing.

To install the new bushings, clean the hole to remove all corrosion and lubricate it with petroleum jelly or similar. Use the same tools to pull the new bushing into position.

You will need to use a washer that just passes through the swingarm and place it against the bushing during removal/installation. The bushings can distort/flex enough to damage them if you don’t use the washer or sufficient lubrication.

Cheers for that, I tried buring one today and then drilling some smalls holes arround the metal inner pipe, which then just taps and leaves the bush to collapse in on itself and be removed.

Planning to fit powerflex bushes so hopefully installation will be smoother. Don’t suppose you know if the Pflex kit for the golf rallye will fit the syncro?

    Cheers

    Q) Quote “Don’t suppose you know if the Powerflex kit for the golf rallye will fit the syncro?”

    A) It will do apart from the anti roll bar bushes which will be to large a diameter.

Best initial mod you can make to a standard Syncro – sorts the handling for fun rather than safety (read dullness).

… Ahh Aycee …[^]Thanks .. Is there a lot of aftermarket suspension goodies available? Is it possible to recycle some ARBs off Another VW or Audi (ie Corrado or a Coupe)???

The rear ARB from the Passat Syncro is the same as the Rallye item the front ARB is ok and doesnt really need changing,
an upper strut brace at the front is also a good idea, a front lower brace is not really needed on the golf 2 as the bottom of the suspension is located by a rather hefty subframe.
