ParticipantThe center sections

some guy offered me on a norwegian forum aluminium bushings at both ends..
don’t know if i’d be using these, are there any advantages?but, the most critical is the centre section, both of them, completly worn to pieces

ModeratorI have some used center bearings here you can have, I sent you an e-mail about it,
the part numbers are
front 191 521 349
rear 191 521 350As for the aluminium bushings, personally I think that they will vibrate like hell cos the G2 Syncro propshaft does NOT run in a straight line, it is more of a dogleg actually, hence the 3 piece propshaft.

Participantif you replace the doughnut with a solid metal item. you’ll get problems. it’ll give the gearbox bearings merry hell as theine trys to move about, it’ll also give the prop bearings and cv joint merry hell.
if you want to loose the doughnut it can be replaced with a cv joint but that requires you to cut the end off the prop and weld the end section of a frount driveshaft in, and attach a drive flange to the transfer case. i looked into doing this when mine tore the doughnut and prop up

ModeratorAt first I thought you meant replacing the shaft centre section bushings with solid, hence my post on horrendous vibration that yopu could expect.
but if you replace the donuts with solid parts it wont last very long and will wreck the rest of the drivetrain as well.August 17, 2009 at 4:10 pm #6179Housey
Participanti mean these bushes behind the CV seen on the pic

Membersorry to butt in on this thread, but my Rallye has a similar propshaft problem.
I can move the propshaft up and down with my hand, the area in red in the picture above seems to blame. It knocks on the rear tunnel when driving.
What would be the problem, what would need replacing?
cheers

ModeratorWhile there should be some movement in the rubber mounting, I am afraid that they are getting well past their sell by date and need replacing,
btw it is best to replace them both at the same time as 1 new one will put an increased load on the remaining original one causing early failure, and as the exhaust & heat shielding must be removed before you can remove the propshaft, it does not make any sense to just replace 1
front propshaft bearing is p/n 191 521 349 rear is 191 521 350

MemberI’ve heard that you could use the bushing/bearing out of C class mercedes (94-00). You just have to work on the attachment/bolt-places a bit. At least here in Finland the orginal ones are about 160e and the MB one about 30e.. Maybe worth looking into, if prices are the same there.

Membersorry to bring this topic up again, but mine has just started banging the tunnel at the front on the Passat G60 Syncro.
am I right in thinking that if the prop is moving to much then these bushes/bearings have gone?
which would make sense, as I am getting a mad vibration and knocking.
also, can you confirm how the prop is held in place?
as although I haven’t removed the prop yet, I can’t see anything holding it in place.
cheers
