Hello I have looked at your forum for for some time thank you[:)].

I purchased a one owner 1989 Golf Syncro from my sister in 2006. I have just put on 15″ BBS wheels with 195/50 tyres which look great. I was thinking of putting on slightly higher profile tyres but read in the handbok page 134 185/55 R 15 80 H not for Syncro, does anyone know why[?]

After having fitted a Webber carb, inspired in part by your site, I find the current petrol consumption high and as the speedo over reads thought a slight increase in tyre diameter might help reduce both problems.

I have read with interest others comments on wheel sizes and tyres and have got the message keep all four the same size. [;)]

Just for the record the car was very original when I got it at 117,000 miles. Apart from the BBS wheels it still looks like any other Golf externally, I love the metalic grey paint and twin headlight look, very 1980’s. Apart from the carb the exhaust front pipe has been replaced with a Cat free and no holes stainless steel one. Any thing else that has given out has been replaced like for like from Euro parts ebay or GFS[:)].

So one day someone is going to inherit a great looking very original car

good find there. Sounds like your car is atlas grey. The webber is a much better carb but its easier to have a lead foot so you might find your driving style has changed a wee bit. Any pics?
