be careful with pattern part cv joints though as the VW part has a machined groove so the boot flange can sit on the outer race of the joint, while the pattern part I bought a few years ago didn’t, which meant that the boot would not sit correctly on the joint.
Probably a silly question, but does it make any difference if I buy a right inner or a left inner front drive shaft CV joint. I think I am having a mental block.[xx(]
I would possibly take one off your hands Chris if you were okay to part with another one, although presumably my G60’s propshaft should already have one (I’m currently away from home so cannot check). If I already have one then presumably there’s no need for me to replace it? I’m guessing it’s not something that really wears.

The price for propshaft CV kit or the Rallye front inner CV kit is about £104.32 each from VW[] I hope euro car parts stock them cheaper than that. The VW part numbers I have used are 321 498 350X or 321 498 103CX
The Rallye has 100mm diameter front inner CV joints, thats p/n 321 498 103CX
The 90mm one as used on the propshaft is p/n 321498350 X and is the front inner CV joint used on the non G60 engined cars.
Here are some photos of an original one.
As you can see the rubber boot is well hidden away to stop the heat getting at it.
The good news about my propshaft, after I was dumb enough to split it without marking it first, is that I managed to work out how the flanges were aligned from markings on the mating faces, where tiny spots of dried grease had been trapped between the mating surfaces for 20 years! Took some rather careful examination.
Ooh! My propshaft doughnut and bushes are waiting for me at VAG. For what they cost, I’m fully expecting them to be gold plated.
If you want a front propshaft boot heatshield I have the last 8 of them in the world here []
They will cost you 20 euros each inc tax, paypal fees & post & packing to anywhere in Europe (inc UK)
Or 25 euros to North America & most of the rest (but not all) of the world
As they (heat) protect the no longer available front cv boot, I think they are a good buy at that price, especially given that these are the last ever!
btw VW thought it necessary to fit them to Syncro models producing 160 bhp + so if you have even a slightly tuned motor its probably a good idea to fit one.
Let me go and see what kind of condition the existing one is on my propshaft. I may take one from you just for the sake of having a new shiny part…
another nice thing about these heatshields. they also provide shielding against dirt getting into the triple square bolt heads

I had to look in ETKA & yes you are correct they they do cover the the boltheads as well, Bonus! [:p]
Chris, i take it these are only for the 90mm joints? If you have a 100mm joint, can you offer one up and take a pic?
The propshaft only has 90mm Joints. []
not mine
