well……… im still confused as to which cam to choose. Id originally settled on a 288 schrick as that was well documented as being an effective fast raod cam for the 2.0. However, Im more concerned about the extra torque needed to more the drivechain (rotational mass etc), especially when driive is diverted to the rear wheels. I want to avoid too much power drop-off when this happens, so torque is the way forward. My brother uses a 272 successfully, but he has a 1.8 nad has a shorter stroke. The 2.0 engines have a longer stroke and are more suited to torque. Now the choices are all schrick and 268, 270 or 272. In all fairness, theres prob not much in it really

Unfortunately there are no other engines that use the same carbs, so research in negligable

So who is using what and where??

larger engines can take more agressive cams.

i wouldn’t worry about they syncro needing more torque

yeah i know, but its all about balancing the componants too. The 288 I had was an excellent choice for a 2wd, but the syncro puts different demands on the engine. Im getting more inclined to chase torque……….

I have a 268 degree cam for my 2.0L motor it gives more low down and mid range power, (which increases driveability) at the expense of 4 or 5 bhp at the top end.

what figures are you getting and what spec is your engine again chris?

I am not getting any figures yet as it is still in build, I am hoping for the best part of 200 bhp with a very flat torque curve, spec is a bored out G60 block fitted with a 2.0 liter crank & pistons, Audi S2 144mm drilled rods, ported ABA crossflow head with 268 Techtonics cam, new beetle 2.0 (large bore) inlet manifold, tubular exhaust manifold, decatted exhaust, and an Eaton M45 compressor mounted like this,

I assume the American power figures are for their version of the 2.0L motor with the low compression pistons & the crappy (emission) American camshaft
