Mine is cracked, if anyone has a spare standard manifold. please can you check if its cracked before posting, as i have had 5 offers but after double checking have said they are also cracked. perhaps there are no un cracked standard manifolds ? [?]
Thats about right, and they are always cracked in exactly the same place, I think that VW must have pre cracked them in the factory before they fitted them!
I repaired mine about 3 years ago, I Veed the crack out, then got it as hot as I could before I welded it,
I built a sort of oven, just by stacking bricks which I then filled with barbeque coal bricks and sat the manifold in them
and lit it, I used a paint stripper hot air gun for a forced draught until the manifold was nearly red hot, then I arc welded
it using the correct rods for cast iron, I let it cool slowly over night, before refitting, it has been on the car for over
three years now with no problems.
chris, thanks for the reply. the one on my rallye has already been welded. so i have been told it cannot be repaired again really.
