MemberHello, wondered if anyone has had dealings with the fan timer relay? part number 191 955 532A
when I turn the ignition on and off, the cooling fan starts and runs for 10+min,(hot or cold engine) If I start the engine the fan stops.
I’ve tried a new thermo switch and got the same results.
vw said there is no stock of the relay in the country, and I’m still not sure it’s the relay at fault. I’ve had a look in a mates scirocco, passat, jetta, and mk1, but non of them have the same relay to try.
The other thing is the 3 swithes in the plastic flange on front of the engine, one of them must be a temp sender, does anyone know what the others are and if they are anything to do with the problem.
cheers

ModeratorAccording to Haynes, one is for the inlet manifold hedgehog heater, and the second is for the automatic choke (which you dont have on your weber) you dont have the wrong wires connected up do you?

Memberhello,
I’ve just had a look and the plugs are all colour coded brown, grey, and black. does it say which one is the auto choke, I may as well unplug it.cheers

MemberHello, I can’t thank you enough for sending the relay so fast, what do I owe you? Unfortunatly the fan is still doing the same thing! I’ve tried it with the sender plugs disconected, no luck. I’m not sure what is left to try! thanks again

ParticipantThe only wire I had connected after I put the Weber on my car was the carb-heater. I’ll have to have a look at the motor tomorrow night to see what colour wire I connected…

ModeratorI as well think you have a wire connected wrong on the carb, try disconnecting all wires from the carb and then seeing if the fan runs then, as the manual says that the the over run switch is controlled from the pierberg carb just above the fuel cut off valve and given that the wire from this to the radiator fan is brown/black as is the wire from the ignition to the fuel cut off valve you could just possibly haver the wrong one collected, try turning the ignition off and see which cables still have power, the one that has is the fan run on and the one that hasn’t is the fuel cut off valve

MemberHello,
Dug the pooberg out and connected all the electrics, and it sorted it, anyway to cut a long story short some gimp had earthed what was probabley fuel cutoff or the carb temp sender wire. Don’t worry I’ve already slapped myself for being so stupid!
Just let me know when you want that pint or two.
thanks again!August 15, 2007 at 6:52 pm #3063Chris S
