Hi, I’ve just bought a country

Hi everyone, been a fan of the country for years, had mk2 golf rallye, polo g40 and heavily into my mk1 golfs. Always had a soft spot for country’s, so I’ve bought a chrome edition, it’s original owner was from Daventry, and I rescued it from Scotland. It’s a bit worse for wear, but I’m up for a challenge []

I’ve searched these pages but I guess the best place for parts in abroad.
Any advice on re-chroming?

At a good one that reflects condition and work to be done, it has got an mot so it’s worth more than £500, no British mot and it’s worth nothing in my opinion. I have import paperwork from 2003 and all tax discs, recorded mileage and all British mot’s.

Replacement parts required or need help with
Roof rails
Bull bar, I have no idea why it was painted but it’s seen some dents in its life.
Side bars, right hand side available from classic Vw de but a pair would be nice.
Door handles look to be mk3 I don’t recall this to be standard spec. Should they be mk2 but with chrome inserts ?

Door handles should be standard mk2 handles, mk3 style handles are a common upgrade, although I prefer the older mk2 “trigger style” release

Yes handles will be changed, but that’s the easy job. Hopefully will get under the car properly this weekend and get the oily bits sorted.

I know Keith from the MK1 club is logging every Campaign he comes across and I log every UK syncro I come across.

But I have no idea on normal country’s

I’m a specialist Engineer working with T3 Boxers & Gearboxes, and the country is my little tank.
Am digging into the internals so if you need any ideas, hope I can help you.
