Bought! I’ve now got to fit it. Thanks Goran.
As it came with a transfer box/angle drive (again from Chris) I now have a spare! I also have some parts from the original gearbox/transfer box if any one is interested!
Thanks Goran, the gearbox is in the car and is being used every day.
The garage had to fit larger CV joints as the originals didn’t fit! Do you know where the original gearbox came from?
It came straight out of the car…I’m pretty sure it’s the original gearbox from my syncro. I know there were 2 sizes of inner CV joints for the GTIs so maybe this was the same for Syncros?
Yes, the smaller joints/flanges were supposedly fitted up to the end of the 1989 model year,
but in practice can be often found on later models, Clive’s 1991 Country being a prime example.

I live in Devon, but will be travelling to Scotland next week sometime, so might be able to pick up on route or route back.
