The transfer box on my syncro is leaking on the driver’s side. I topped it up and it seemed ok, but the oil was all over the floor the next day… [:(]

    Anyway, questions:

    • Is it possible to replace the seal in-situ? I’m guessing not.
    • If the box has been like this for a while, is it worth getting it refurbed / rebuilt?
    • I’ve been quoted around £450 for a rebuild. Is that too much?
    • Should I even bother getting it rebuilt?

    I think that’s all… Oh – Happy Xmas! [:)]

If you have proper access from underneath, (IE a lift bridge) then it is perfactly possible to replace the oil seal in situ.

it would be better to replace all of the oilseals at the same time though.

And 450 pounds is far to much for a rebuild, I would just replace the seal(s)

Chris – do you have the part numbers for the oil seal? Are they still available? Thanks :)
