I’ve just ordered two of them, which including postage came to about 53GBP.
These are the same type of boot and diameter (94mm) as used on the Syncro propshaft (boot part number 191521391A). I was about to order two of them from VW, but they would have come to well over 100GBP (just for two little CV boots) plus there would have been a long lead time involved.
Hopefully this will be useful to anyone else rebuilding their Syncro propshaft. I’ll take some pictures of them when they arrive.

They look good Trev. I will be looking forward to seeing the pics. And what you think to the quality & fit. Have you decided where to get your propshaft balanced yet?

I’ll throw up some good pictures for comparison when they arrive. I do hope they’re a suitable replacement.
I haven’t arranged to get the propshaft balanced anywhere yet, but the place I’ve linked to above (where I ordered the boots from) also provide this service. They’re based in Newport, and a typical price might be £100ish.
I’m a fool for not marking the positions before taking the three sections apart. I’m going to study the sections later and see if there are any telltale marks at all that could indicate which way the flanges mated together (even dirt, rust, etc.) before I resort to paying for a balancing service I think.
A second option I do have, actually, is a spare standard MK2 Syncro propshaft I have that’s still completely assembled, which other than the front (and/or rear?) doughnut I think is the same as the G60 Syncro’s shaft.
So I could maybe use that one (and remember to mark the sections properly this time!) if I can’t work out how my G60 Syncro’s propshaft’s sections were aligned.
I notice there’s quite a lot of balancing weights on each section, so I bet it would vibrate like a bugger if I got it wrong.I would not risk guessing / judging which way round the propshaft goes back together. My propshaft was marked with white paint at each joint, I had the exhaust looked at in the bad weather(bad snow)so I could not do it outside & they replaced the propshaft wrong. I only worked out what the noise was the other day when I was under the Rallye looking for the umpteenth time & saw the misaligned paint markers (propshaft was in the correct position to see). I think I was lucky not to have destroyed my new propshaft hangers.
You are lucky to have a spare propshaft not split, every second hand propshaft I have seen for sale is split & not marked up. I currently have a spare propshaft I want to refurb as a spare, new CV’s, boot’s, hangers the job lot. But when you start pricing everything up, you can spend alot of money if you bought the parts from VW, never mind the propshaft it’s self & then the balancing. I am trying to look at using the CV’s from another golf from euro car parts. Good make but they should be alot cheaper & if these boots work out that’s another saving. I will post up as soon as I find anything out.
The CV joint is the same as the 90mm front inners P/N 321498350 X its only the boot which differs,
be careful with pattern part cv joints though as the VW part has a machined groove so the boot flange can sit on the outer race of the joint, while the pattern part I bought a few years ago didn’t, which meant that the boot would not sit correctly on the joint.
mk21147, when the problem started with your propshaft, was it because they for some reason dismantled one of the intermediate CV joint connections? Or, had they disconnected one of the extreme ends at the transfer unit or differential? I certainly haven’t marked where it connects to the transfer box or differential and assuming that this doesn’t matter, as surely the relative position of the differential / transfer box won’t come into the balancing equation.
Thanks for the tips – following what’s been said I shall now go ahead and use the spare propshaft I have in storage, being careful to mark it all up first.
The boots I have received aren’t totally like the VAG ones in that the metal section that covers the rubber boot is perhaps almost twice as long. However, functionally I don’t think this is going to be a problem. I will take a picture later to illustrate this. It looks like the outer part of the flange is the correct size. I do hope they can be used because one of my boots is damaged and the cost of parts from VW is a joke now. The rubber hangers and front doughnut cost a bloody fortune to order, what with a general parts cost increase, increase in VAT, and the fact that the friendly parts guy has been told by his boss not to apply discount anymore
Will they not give you discount if you say vou are a member a recognised VW owners club as in VW Syncro.co.uk ?

Hi trev,
They split the propshaft at both CV joints, so all three sections were mixed up. I do not think it matters marking the propshaft at transfer box or VC end as the propshaft is balanced on its own.

I haven’t removed the joint and boot from a shaft yet, so the first image shows one of the new boots placed on the opposite side for comparison.
The flange diameter and bolt hole positioning seems to be fine; it’s just that the bit that shrouds over the boot is perhaps 10mm longer. I don’t see this being a problem though.

I have just spoken to Peter at VW Classic parts & there are only 8 of them left + he is extreemly doubtful about being able to obtain any more,
so to save any problems for any members on here who would like one, I have bought all 8 of them!
They will be shortly be available from me (when I get back from holiday in portugal on the 6th of March)
btw, these heatshields were fitted as standard by VW to the 160 bhp Golf & Passat Syncro and also of course to the Rallye, so it would seem to be a good idea to fit one if you are going to have a more powerful than standard engine.
I just noticed that is my 4000th post in just short of 8 years [
