When I rotated my wheels I noticed that the rear spare wheel carrier was very loose and can be moved up and down at the lock end a couple of inches! I tried to tighten the bolt under the bumper, but this obviously only holds the carrier on.

I assume that the bearings have gone. Does anyone know if they are still available or what the part numbers are?

I assume that I just undo the bolt underneath, remove the carrier and then the bearings to replace them with the new ones!

    Anyone done this before?

Part number 193 807 789 is the bearing (2 needed) but unfortunately dropped by VW on 01-01-2003

VW Classic parts don’t have them listed either

how about making a full length nylon sleeve for the swivel carrier to rotate in?
