Membercan anyone confirm that the amount of gear oil i need to put into a non-shared oilway transfer box is 0.5 litres?
also can anyone tell me the torque setting for the three propshaft flange to donut bolts at the front end of the prop? can’t seem to find it on this site i know it’s got to be here somewhere..August 9, 2009 at 12:40 am #6143Chris S
ModeratorYes, it is 1/2 a liter.

ModeratorAnd please make sure that the donut is fitted correctly, it will fit in any of 4 ways but only one is correct,
that is with the protruding drive lugs on the donut engaged in the recesses in the gearbox & prop flanges and with the heat shield mounting face to the rear.here is how it should fit

Membererk.. haven’t personally had the actual donut off and i remember it looks like that so all should be well. didn’t use loctite, didn’t read this in time, but the last time i bolted it up before this was two years ago and i only used a 10mm spanner with another spanner on the end then! was lucky it seems. have torqued them up with brand new torque wrench to 60nm, all the lugs engaged etc. should be ok, and i’m usually a very paranoid mechanic.
took the car out for 300 mile drive today, new engine’s loosening up nicely, wide track conversion doesn’t rub, cable change gearbox a bit notchy but that’s cos it’s got the wrong shift cable bracket on i think. have ordered a side by side cable bracket that should make the world of difference.
thanks to everyone who’s given me advice, it would have been a great deal harder without it! -
