I’m selling my VR6 Syncro transfer box, rear differential and viscous coupling on eBay. The auction ends tonight.

It looks like someone is going to snatch these up very cheaply in comparison with the £500ish I originally spent getting hold of them, but hohum.
Thanks
Trev
So who bought them then? please tell
btw, I did e-mail a few friends who may have not seen this post before it would have been too late.
Hi Chris,
I’ve no idea who the chap is on eBay who has bought them. Never heard of his name before.
I’m totally amazed that so few people bit at them.
I put them on eBay out of frustration really because I was just messed about far, far too many times over them when I advertised them on forums.

Yeah, the guy says he’s going to keep them spare for his Rallye.
To be honest I was tempted to keep them as spares for my G60 Syncro, and perhaps I should have. But on the flipside, getting hold of the equivalent Rallye parts should I ever need them should be easier, and at least they’d be fully compatible. These VR6 parts would have to be swapped in as a set I presume (because of the different drive ratio).
the transfer box won`t fit the rallye or g60 syncro anyway unless you change the diff to vr6 cos its a bolt in shaft but i guess its not to hard to change the diff anyway,

Thats handy to know!
nutter4x4, could you explain a bit more about how you mean please?
I’m confused because I compared the VR6 transfer box with my G60 Syncro’s transfer box and everything looks exactly the same. Exactly the same housing casting. The only difference that I could see was that the splined part of the shaft that goes through the transfer box looks ‘stubbier’ or shorter than the one on the G60 Syncro’s unit. So to use this VR6 transfer unit on a Rallye / G60 Syncro, I’d have thought you just retain the Rallye’s shaft.
hi trev i bought the trf box and diff, will await nutter 4×4 reply as if not compatible i’ll sell on again. i think he means you cannot just use the trf box you have to marry it up to the rear diff. thanks
The “normal” (4 cylinder type) transfer box & rear diff have 20/21 & 21/20 ratios, while the VR6 has a 16/21 – 21/16 ratio,
thus making them incompatable with each other.
I think I initially misunderstood nutter4x4’s post, and thought that there was some other incompatibility issue in addition.
I realised that the transfer box and differential have a ratio between them that’s different to that used on the Rallye components (though I wasn’t sure what the ratios were – thanks for clarifying). I know that Fazzogs realises that they must be used as a pair.
Hi Trev
I now am horrified to realise that I actually needed these for my project!I have sent an email to the purchaser to see if he will sell them to me as I have a perfect rallye diff and vc that I can part ex with him if he only wants them as spares.By the way let me know what you want to do about that dash insert.Do you have a phone no. for him by any chance? My no. is 07870824424.
Cheers.Chris
Cancel that last bit.He has kindly got in touch by email.
Lets be honest for a moment, and say that no one, including me & the few other Syncro Gurus, knows everything about the VW Syncro/Audi 4 motion systems in all its various guises,
whether its Passat, Golf, T25, T3, T4, T5 or whatever we can only do our best to the best of our knowledge, which I am sure that we all do!
And I am also quite sure that sometimes we do get it wrong,
ho hum such is life! [] []
