anyone know what fluid is supposed to be used in the VC. ive heard it should be changed every 70k miles?!
No, its in for life, and to be honest I don’t think you can even buy the fluid.
Ah ok must have been given duff info!
100,000 wt high viscous silicone is what is required. You can purchase it here….

It is possible to open the coupling to refill with fluid.
We have now found it, well Ade has!
Thanks Chris it was a joint effort between me and google, I have a spare 500g tub of silicone if anyone’s interested. The hardest part doing the job is removal of the wire that holds the end cap on, it’s fed through the slot in the side of housing. When reassembling I gripped the wire with mole grips and tapped with hammer and it went back in quite easy.
Any further updates about how you did this and how well the VC works on the car afterwards would be extremely appreciated. There was some discussion about doing this a few months back on here.
I’ll have to put together a how-to on it for you, i’ve got to refill the coupling i’ve taken off the car so i’ll take pictures as I go and put it up. Before I done this my car would wheel spin out of junctions due to the lack of fluid in the VC, now you can feel all four wheels have traction, Its certainly better than it was before.
Please do make a photo guide.
Any more on this?
No sorry I’ve had other things going on and as this coupling is a spare I’ve kinda put it on a back burner. Your coupling needs refilling does it?

How can I check to see if it does or not?
The only way to know is if you can see where the fluid has come out, mine was coming out from the insert for one of the bolts that holds the prop on, it will be sticky stuff you will see a trail from the leak and it will be all over the floorpan in that area. Dirt sticks to this too so have a good look.
