Ok chaps, I’ve searched the forums but can find nothing so…..
I have been recommended some Vredestein Quadtrac 3 tyres as a suitable tyre for wet & dry tarmac and for mud and snow (& they are available in 205/60 R15). Does anyone have any experience with these, or the previous Quadtrac 2, tyres. I believe that the on road performance is good, but what are they like on grass or in mud/gravel/rock?
I went to my local tyre fitters at the weekend, and after spending half an hour of the guys crawling over and under the car (“never seen one before”, “did you convert it yourself?”, etc) they recommended these tyres as an all terrain fitment. Any comments?
I am also trying to get some more agressive tread tyres for the 14″ set I have. Does anyone know of any 14″ Mud Terrains or similar?
i’m running on vredestein sportrac2’s, and they are brilliant. In the wet they just work like its dry. Not sure about quadtrac’s but vredestein make very good wet tyres so my guess is they are pretty good
14″ mud terrains are virtually impossible to find, although BF Goodrich did do some.
15″ off road tyres will generally be too high profile to make any sense on the Golf, even if it is a Country.
Do you really want to take your Golf off road?
I’m not really taking it off road, just a couple of gentle lanes around here! They can get a bit muddy in the winter months and I don’t think the ATs would be any good! Also, I know that some tyres are next to useless on wet grass so was looking for something a bit more chunkier although MTs would be a bit extreme.
The fitter at the local tyre emporium said he uses the Quadtrac 2 on his Volvo T5 and he reckons they are amazing in the wet and dry!
I’ve seen the 14″ BF Goodrich tyres on the internet, but I think they are only available in USA and Oz! Shipping might be a tad expensive!!!!
I think I’ll go for the Quadtrac 3s and I’ll report on how I get on.
