hi. does anyone know which tdi engine i could put into my mk2? i have a 1z from a mk3 golf in mind.. i don’t think this would need much complicated wiring just a fuel feed, return, and 12v power. anyone done a tdi conversion before?
a 1z or simalar will give you 90 diesel drinking donkeys that don’t need meany wires, never put a diesel in a syncro. but fitted plenty of vag diesles to random plant equipment there ain’t meany wires at all
presumably loads of torque though. also thinking about the mpg in these times. doesn’t sound too complex with the older vag diesels..
diesel is all torque reving above 4k isnt optimal tho
i read somewhere the old rod change box might not be up to it. is this the case or would swapping the internals of the mk2 gtd rod box sort it do you think?
iirc the syncro box has same gears as the diesel one in it, but with a diffrent (lower) final drive so overall ratos simalar to gti, may be worth fitting diesel crown anf pinion to give a more sutable final drive ratio else you may find it’ll be revving hard for a diesel on motorway.
if your not planning on doing standing starts ect rod box should cope.
You can check out the effect of various ratios here http://www.scirocco.org/gears/
