Relay number 83, a relay clipped to the edge of the fusebox on my CE2 89 Jetta syncro 1.8 carb. I have looked up that it is the relay for the syncro freewheel lock.
Now the reason that I am looking at this relay is that I was tidying my engine bay preparing for paint and I notice a plug with a black wire hanging in the engine bay, at the drivers side turret beside the master cylinder. I traced this black wire into the main loom and back to this relay.
Does anyone have any idea what this wire should be attached to?
Does anybody have a wiring diagram for the syncro freewheel lock?
I have done a bit of digging online and found this wiring diagram:

It appears to match everything on my car.
This mysterious black wire hanging in my engine bay leads back to 6/15 on the relay in the diagram. there are two black wires coming from 6/15 in my car, the other heads to plug K8 on the fusebox. However I am still no closer to figuring out where the black wire would have been attached to originally.
I suspect it may have been cut to splice in wiring for a trailer socket with reverse lights perhaps…. But that doesn’t answer my question.
BTW the reversing light plug on the gearbox appears original. It has the following wires, brown, white, white/green, black/red and black/blue.
