Car mk2 golf syncro 1990 converted to ABF using CE2 electrics

At the moment ive got no rear shafts on the car and no propshaft so it is runnung 2wd.

Can anyone explain how the rear diff vacuum solonoid works, From what i understand is that the solonoid is engaged when

    Reverse gear is selected
    Brakes are applied
    Clutch is applied.

I have converted my whole car to 90 spec CE2 loom and need to figure out the wiring. My gearbox switch is not wired up at all

Can i make a custom loom so when the brake, clutch or reverse is selected the solonoid is engaged on the diff. would this be safe to use without breaking anything.

Or is there anyone who can modfiy my loom that goes to the gearbox switch so it works correctly as when i took it out it also had other wires on.

Any help would be great as i wanna drive 4wd soon

So, is your car a 1990 spec Syncro? Or did you just upgrade it to CE2 wiring?

If the car was a 1990, it should have already been CE2, so no conversion would have been needed.

As far as the connections for the wiring/vacuum for the freewheel lockout solenoid, the easiest way to get things going would be to find yourself the wiring from a CE2 Syncro.

Which transmission are you using for your ABF, 020 or 02C? If 020, I wouldn’t expect it to hold long… [xx(]

If it’s an 02C box, I would assume that you would need the corresponding wiring harness for the 02C reverse switch, as it’s different from the 020 piece.

When people have trouble with German language, do try this one.

Punch your word in, and automatically the selected language word pops out :

The car was originaly pre 90 spec wiring(hazards on the dash not column) Ive used a mk2 90spec golf with ce2 as a donor for the full interior electrics and ive used a mk3 abf engine bay wiring loom (without immobiliser).

Im using the original rod change box until i can get a haldex setup in the future, ive been driving it for 6 month in front wheel drive mode (without prop and rear shafts, with cv ends in place)

Thanks Chris for the wiring diagram but im a novice with the wiring diagrams, A chap from club gti sent me some diagrams in english ill try dig them out and post them.

Is it possible for me to do what i said in the original post making up my own circuit?

Theres not many people around me with syncro knowledge and i dnt wanna give the car to them to wire it up and possibly get it wrong.

If i was to provide the diagram to a auto electrician would they be able to make up the loom for me? I still have the original wiring from the gearbox switch.

Google translate is a god send!

I would say, unless you plan on boosting that ABF, that an 02C (cable shift G60/MKIII Syncro) box should be plenty strong enough to handle it. If I remember right, 02C’s are good for about 200hp.

As far as the wiring, from my experience with CE1 vs. CE2: *cough*
(did a full CE2/MKII dash swap on a CE1 MKI)

    SDC10224.jpg

    SDC10271.jpg

    SDC10272.jpg

Almost all of the wiring colors matched up on the chassis end, I just had to splice the MKI connectors onto the MKII harness. I would assume that going from CE1-CE2 on a MKII should be even easier, since a majority of the connectors, aside from the headlight switch, gauge cluster, signal/wiper stalks (maybe the ignition switch), should be the same. Just take your time. :)

Also, you should be able to remove the reverse switch portion of the CE1 harness and splice the CE2 plug on the fuse block side, that way it’s inside the car, and away from the elements. (or, even better than splicing, get yourself some of the correct sized end pins, and re-pin the harness to fit the CE2 plug. That way you’ve just made your CE1 harness plug and play with CE2. :)

Now would be a good time to learn how do solder. ;)
