Hi,
After 150,000km on its clock and near 25yrs after production, my G syncro seems to give itself up.
A year ago I had my engine coolant checked and it was fine. Recently mechanic told me it is blackened, darkened. I verified that it is not the pure dyed black, but seems to be tiny black particles are in the coolant.
Plus that I see my H2O temp gauge passed the thermometer sign, which never happened before.
The only location I can think that the exhaust and the coolant is located close to each other is the cylinder head, and I am not sure if I should just rebuild the cylinder head, as it is going to cost me near 3,000euro.
Last week I went to see a 2005 Passat w8 4motion but i am not sure if I should go for that based on the prices it could bring me if previous owner did not maintain properly.
I am going to have the coolant changed later this week to see further if the bad cylinder head gasket is the key, but I am a bit pessimistic now.
Also, can anyone translate this properly?
Biete einen 1,8l 98PS Motor aus einem Golf2 Syncro Bj. 1990 mit orig. 91 Tkm.

translation as follows
Offering a 1.8 liter 98PS engine from a Golf2 Syncro. 1990 orig. 91 thousand kilometers. Engine code should be 1P (I will check tomorrow), wherein the motor is probably identical in construction to 2H, probably there are no great differences with the 90hp injectors (please check yourself).
Sell the motor because the car is converted to 1.8T and I have to store no place, the engine looks very good, increase, not oily, … Vehicle was almost moved only in summer and running properly, can be up to 28.12. Sample are driven (at 29.12 he is. Removed). Engine parts (alternator, intake manifold, distributor, ignition coil, etc. is mounted). The servo I need myself, just contact ambiguities.

3000 euros for a rebuilt cylinder head? surely you mean 300 eu? I can get an 8v head completely rebuilt here for about 250 eu
Well the 3000euro I meant including labor, parts and everything, not just the cylinder head.
Do you happen to know if I could choose other hi-perf options as ported, etc?

Yes of course you can!
Thanks for your reply Chris.
Do you also happen to know if this AGG engine can be fitted in the golf?
Currently I am looking at every options.
1. Have the shop do the work but get the cylinder head somewhere else
2. Have the shop rebuild the cylinder head
3. Swap with another fittable engine
4. Put the golf in hibernation and get a new ride
The order is in the likelihood of choosing a way, if I were to have the cylinder head done, I might as well get a new camshaft with better performance.
Much appreciated your help!
Shinya
That Engine will physically fit, but will need a lot of new electronics & wiring.
I would try & stick with option 1 or 2 []
