hello forum members.
i am about to start a haldex syncro conversion on my 79 mk1 golf with the following parts:
#450bhp aum 20v engine
#rallye gear box
#octavia elegance transfer box
#rallye/tt prop shaft
#rallye front subframe
#rallye rear beam
#tt diff
and was wondering if any other forum members have done a similar conversion, or know of someone ho has.
i have been planning this for a while now, and have collected up nearly all of the above parts, apart from the transfer box and prop.
ive spoke to ben leech a few times at qp engineering who has done this conversion using running gear from a rallye, and have been given some good tips from him.
so i know what way im going to go about doing it, but am always open to other suggestions and ideas, as i dont want to go down a road that might end up ruining my car.
if anyone has anything they would like to add before i start cutting the rear floor pan and subframe, it would be much appreciated,
regards
dub fatha
no need to cut any subframes
hi there
i wanted to fit a mk2 golf front subframe so that it would be a bit more rigid, and so can run power steering
yeh not a problem , still not needed to be cut, the mk1 wishbones need to cut off to fit it,

are you sure he had to cut the rear beam so that the rear wheels were tucked inside the arches?
yes defo , look at the way the wishbones sit at the mounting points

ah i see,
so i guess a haldex mounting kit from dutch build will need some modding to fit the narrowed beam[V]
what about the actual mounting points on the mk1 floor, how would i mod them so that the syncro beam will bolt up to the mk1 floor.
help[xx(]
theres no need to cut the beam, just make up some mounts that use the original mk1 rear beam mountsa tiny section of sill is removed , i mean tiny 5 mm at the mostjust welded a plate over it good ad new, the rest is easy, it fits even with et27 7.5 inch rims on plenty of clearance

you sound like you have done this before matey[]
thanks for the info, its much appreciated
just out of curiousity, why did ben narrow the rear bean if it didnt need doing
Hi,
My Mk1 is now fitted with a Rallye rear beam and front subframe, nutter4x4 is right there was no need to shorten the rear beam and you just have to remove small sections from the sills at each side to accomodate it!
Dont suppose ya have any pics you could send me showing what was done to fit the a mk2 subframe in? i would be very gtratful if so, pm me of ya have some and ill pm back my email address.
Cheers
