Hello,
I own a golf Mk3 VR6 Syncro 1996. The car has about 227 000 km on it. It is a lovely car and most probably I will be the final owner. The drivetrain is the most weared out thing in it since not all of the previous owners have taken good care of the car.
The gearbox is pretty noisy all around, expecially in 1st gear and makes all sorts of whinning noises and doesn’t select the gears as smoothly as it should.
So I am looking for someone who knows how to rebuild a Syncro tranny and the syncro system in general, I guess mine is the 02C and also take a look inside the rear diff system so check if everything is ok. I found some really nice rebuilding sites/people in the US but it is too much of a hassle to ship it overseas since I live in Eastern Europe.
So I figured this is the best place to ask. I can take the parts of the car and ship them to whomever has experience with this.
Thanks,
Mike
Would it not be cheaper to try and find a replacement gearbox and diff in your country? By the time you cover shipping both ways plus the cost of rebuild seems expensive.
Well I’m not in a hurry and I want to do this right. This is an old car and somewhat rare given the Syncro spec and the only trannys i’ve been able to find are probably as old and unkempt as this one is. Also I want someone who knows what piece goes where and what to look for in an old piece like this. As I said I’ve seen some really nice rebuilds overseas but that is just to far away to make it work for me.
I may be able to take the gearbox/transfer box on for a rebuild later on in the year, but I’m sorry I am much too busy at the moment.
Patrick will rebuild your rear diff for you.
Hello again and thanks for the answers. I would like to know who is Patrick is he also a member of this forum ? I would like to get in contact with him and maybe work things out. Chris, how much later in the year are we talking ? September, later ? I will still be searching for shops closer to home and I’ll keep in touch.
So anyone know of maybe some shops in Germany, I would guess they would know some things as it is their own brand ?
thanks.
Patrick is Padrig on here, for the gearbox I dont know how much later in the year before I have the facilities back again,
I have just lost the rental on a 2 car size garage with off road parking space, & am now waiting to build my new workshop (6 Meters X 4 Meters)in my back garden,
unfortunately this will not have vehicle access!
so I also need to hire another garage (about 1000 eu per year for a domestic type single car unit) as you can imagine at the moment I can’t move for Syncro spares, its an absolute nightmare.
