Hi ive almost finished my syncro now, it has a 1.8 16v turbo engine in and is as good as finished, its on stand alone so needs the map finishing off but then its ready to go, anyway the problem i have is the clutch! its now got the syncro flywheel and clutch on,but as you will no doubt know that wont cut the mustard [xx(] so what options do i have regarding clutch setups? ie will a rallye one fit? ect thanks in advance Gaz
Anybody?
You need an 02C (Rallye, Passat Syncro) gearbox, the std Golf Syncro clutch is 210 mm diameter While the Rallye one is 228 mm.
unfortunately this will only fit when you are using the O2c style gearbox though.
Hi Chris thanks for the reply, ok so the rally’s option is out the window but in sure the gti use a 210mm clutch so am I right in thinking I can just buy and uprated gti like a black diamond one and use that? Cheers Gaz
I think (But not sure & will check later) that the splines are different on the 16v clutch plate.

Thanks [8D]
The 16v Gearbox input shaft is indeed different its 2mm greater diameter for a start.

Oh dear lol, 8v? I’m running out if options hear haha
You could try an uprated 8v clutch, but the box itself is not going to hold up for very long.

Are they really that weak? I’d like to go for an O2M box but I’m not sure how to go about it, what clutch/flywheel setup is needed also what shafts do you use? Then there’s the problem of the speedo and clutch itself being hydrolic I’m assuming I’d need to change the pedal box and then there’s the gear linkage problem as well as mounts, just seems a big job

if you treat it carefully with no drag strip style standing starts etc, tne O20 will last for a time,
the length of time being in direct proportion to how hard you use/abuse it.

looks like this will have to be my plan for now, the car made 255bhp but has been set at 182bhp so i dont kill the box/clutch for the time being
