Hi, I am new to the forum. I have a Mark1 Cabriolet which is currently stripped down to nothing and sitting on my rotisserie. I was going to just to a complete nut & bolt restoration but I feel I would like to build something a bit special. I would be grateful if somebody who has done this 4wd conversion could give me some advice on what parts are needed and what the procedure would be? Cheers.[

While I dont know anyone who has done this conversion, I think you will need a complete Golf 2 Syncro to strip for parts, this is the best & cheapest way to get everything you need for the conversion, including the sheet metal underbody & floor panels.
Be prepared for a whole heap of work and then some more, as the cabby shell will need even more stiffening to manage the rwd aspect of the Syncro system.
nutter4x4 might like to shed some light on this conversion…
i have for him on another forum
There was a Mk1 cabrio based 4wd produced in Italy under license from VW.
Not sure what it was called – something like a Biaggio/Biaggini IIRC but surely that used a Syncro pan.
Check out Ebay.de as I have seen some on there.
Which forum ?
Its full title is a Biagini Passo 4×4 Cabrio
