i’m in the process of putting a tall block 2 litre with a rallye gearbox into a rod change syncro. am i right in thinking that a diesel mk2 front mount will tip the engine back far enough to avoid downpipe to bulkhead clearance issues?
i also read somewhere on this site that when doing a cable change conversion some mod has to be done to the rear engine mount. does anyone know what this is? or do i need a new one? many thanks..

You need the front console from the Passat P/N 357 199 273 , the actual rubber mounting is the same
If you can find one on the scrapyard, any 4 cylinder Corrado from 1989 to 1995 has all the correct mounting brackets you need fitted, you juat then need to saw one of the lugs of the right hand console.

thanks chris. i have a rallye front mount bracket, i’ll check it on vagcat to make sure it’s the same thing.
when you say saw one of the lugs off, is this where the rear engine mount bolts to the back of the block?
do i saw one of those four lugs off?
will it still be strong enough?

Yes, if you look at the Rallye rear mount this only has 3 lugs as the 4th lug fouls the rubber boot.

You can (just about) see how the Rallye rear mount has the lower inner lug missing to clear the joint boot.

yes, that makes sense. so i’ll take the grinder to it then. if i cock it all up i can still get the genuine mount from vw albeit at £40. thanks for the help.
