Hi all. I know that this topic has raised it’s ugly head before and i trawled the search forums on here to get info but didn’t find any comprehensive material. Basically i have a mk2 5 door syncro that i want to convert to 20VT. I know i need a rallye box and transfer box and probably a custom downpipe. I Will be looking to purchase any parts that i need on here as rallye or syncro parts are like hen’s teeth over here in Ireland.
Does anyone have a ”list of parts” for the conversion???
I’ve been told that the 1.8T AGU engine code is the one to use??
Anyone have any idea if factory 20VT management is the one to go for or aftermarket stuff like QPEC???
Are 1.8T downpipes for syncros custom or is there a supplier??
Will the syncro drives fit the rallye box??
Will the syncro brakes be up to the job??
Which clutch and pressure plate will i need??
Any other info that you guys have would be very much appreciated.
Cheers.. Shane

I’ve been told that the 1.8T AGU engine code is the one to use?? I can’t help you, but I know there are two different blocks on the 20VT motor.
Anyone have any idea if factory 20VT management is the one to go for or aftermarket stuff like QPEC??? Aftermarket should give more power as you can map all your ignition and injection. Alternatively you should be able to get a standard ECU with the security burnt out.
Are 1.8T downpipes for syncros custom or is there a supplier?? It’s gotta be custom and I doubt there’s a supplier, but at least you don’t need tuned headers, unlike an NA motor.
Will the syncro drives fit the rallye box?? Driveshafts? GTI CVs bolt up to the gearbox output flanges (do not they, Chris?)
Will the syncro brakes be up to the job?? No, no, no.
Which clutch and pressure plate will i need?? A Rallye/Passat flywheel/clutch combination.
The guys at http://www.vwrescue.co.uk/ Are running a 20VT motor on a rod-change box with around 200bhp. It had just eaten it’s diff at Castle Combe last weekend.
factory 20v managment is a pain, aftermarket is easyer to fit also people want daft moneny for engine loom clocks keys and ecu.
syncro driveshafts will fit rallye gearbox knock the 90mm cv’s off and knock 100mm gti ones on
